BBC Tracey Ullman’s Show Horse Races

Client: BBC
Nick Collett

In this extract from Tracey Ullman’s Show, which aired Friday primetime on BBC1, Nick helps the legendary comedian tackle the character of beloved UK TV host Clare Balding, poking fun at the sometimes seeming predominance that she can have on BBC programming. Building on his experience working with stand-up comedians crafting acts via quick rehearsal and re-write turn-arounds, Nick worked closely with Tracey & the producers developing script, structure and characters. Locking themselves away in a room, they’d work through the scripts; running through on their feet, coming up with new lines, identifying any character issues and adding new jokes. All of these could then be written into the script promptly by the writer in the room to ensure the comedy was always captured fresh and organic.
